uCareSystem as auto update method

Hi all Mubuntu fans.

Would it be recommended to add uCareSystem (http://utappia.org/download-ucaresystem/) as a cron job in the forthcoming Ubuntu MATE 16.04? I heard that script recommended on the Ubuntu Podcast (S09E05 – Dark side of the Toon).

This sounds like a good fix for GNU/Linux not having an auto update feature – ideal for putting Linux onto non-techie relatives computers who forget to manually update.

Would it force an upgrade to the next version of Ubuntu MATE i.e. 16.10 in time (I’d rather it did not).

I’d like to hear peoples thoughts on this.

Cheers.

It seems to be a terminal only program for 16o4 use.

I feel you, about spreading linux to friends and family. Having some way to keep them updated will keep them secure, without any effort. A new system that adds more work is likely not to be used.

Personally, I love using the terminal command line to update. Sometimes I’ll do update and upgrade out of boredom and typing gives me something to do.

There is also a sense of empowerment in using the terminal, something that fewer and fewer programs are made to do. It is becoming a lost art(like handwriting) and I try to find ways to use it more and more, such as youtube-dl and, on Raspberry Pi, omxplayer.
