Unable to select unfocused windows in UM 17.04 64-bit

I recorded a video here. Using compiz at the moment. Is it a bug or do I need to turn something on/off? Please help!

It’s a well known bug:

I wasn’t aware 17.04 was affected :/

That was simple and quick! Thanks @ouroumov!

Curiously enough, recently this problem seems to have jumped over Compiz and is showing up also on my Marco Software compositor under 16.04.

However I’m not exactly prepared to give details or open a ticket. I need for it to show up again (it’s seemingly random) and with the help of @maxspice video understand if we are talking about the same thing.

Yep, I run into this annoying bug sometimes… usually when Compiz had a “soft crash” and reloaded itself… or if I’m on my laptop, unplugging/replugging display cables.

Pressing ALT+F2 and just typing compiz --replace can do the trick.

But not just that though:

  • If Software Updater sneakily appears, it should be right clicked and closed, otherwise it vanishes when focused.
  • Some windows appear to be unmaximized, but can’t be seen (but interact like they’re visible all along).
  • As the video shows, some windows act like ghosts until they’re minimised and restored again.
