Uncontrollable mouse

Hi! I am a new convert (since last week) to MATE. It works beautifully in my Toshiba Portege but for the mouse/touchpad, which is too light and over-sensitive. I have set the Acceleration and Sensitivity inMouse Preferences to Slow & Low but still it is not satisfactory: the moment I touch the mouse, the pointer “flies” wildly and very fast on the monitor.

Any ideas on how to cope with the problem?

You could try using the older synaptics touchpad driver instead of the newer default libinput one:

sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

Then reboot to use it.
