Can I uninstall Restricted extras from ubuntu-mate-16.04 as VLC can play almost every thing I need. I I need this package for VLC also?
Use Ubuntu MATE Welcome to install codecs, this will install what you need

I was asking if I totally remove ubuntu-restricted-extras form the system although VLC still installed then how will it effect the performance of my pc. Can I still play all those videos, mp3 etc.
Can VLC play all those media formats without restricted-extra package ?
@Hemanta I installed without restricted extras and VLC can play mp3 and videos. There should be no performance difference.
