Wondering if I should upgrade to yakkety-yak(16.1)?
On this page it states that
Ubuntu 16.10 comes with the latest Linux kernel, 4.8…The kernel has gained support for mode-setting on new NVIDIA Pascal cards using the Nouveau driver. Plus AMD GPU owners can now overclock using the free AMDGPU driver.
But if I am running latest Nvidia drivers, and a nVidia TitanXP GPU, would there be any advantage?
Are you an experienced Linux user and/or is your risk tolerance high? If either of the above are true then, by all means, upgrade. If either of them are not true, then install 16.10 from scratch or, even, just stick with 16.04 LTS until 18.04 LTS comes along. 18.04 LTS is basically 16.10 with all of the wrinkles ironed out. Most people who are looking for long term support and stability go from LTS to LTS and miss out the short term editions in between. Indeed, though I am an experienced Linux user and I have a relatively high risk tolerance, I still tend to go from LTS to LTS.
I have got to agree with @stevecook172001 on this one, I tried 16.10 but it is buggy and I only re-installed it on a test partition recently to help another forum member try and solve a problem. Also it is only supported until July 2017 so no no term support either!.
Stick with 16.04 as just simply having the latest kernel is not the be all and end all of the situation!.
