USB 3 only shows after plug in

Upon start up…16.04 doesn’t pick up my usb 3 thumb drive…BUT if I unplug it and plug it back in, then UM picks it up and displays it. This happens every time…maybe the new UM will have this fixed…Just a few more days !

Possibly, it’s likely a problem with the kernel or how your motherboard (hardware) initialises them on power up.

My external USB 3 drive for instance appears and works fine if plugged in while booting up. In my case, that’s not good as my internal data drive won’t auto-mount due to being assigned a different block device (e.g. /dev/sdc instead of /dev/sdb).

You could try 16.10 (which has a newer kernel) when it’s released next week, and/or check your BIOS/UEFI settings for options related to boot / POST.
