I found out something new today. I can use Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth Tethering, and USB tethering on my cell phone in order to get internet by using my phone. The download speeds is 67.95 Mbps.
Any tips or cautions I need to know about?
P.S. I was homeless for a few days. Slept in my car. Got a nice cabin that is 4X the size of my previous residence.
Glad to hear you're back indoors.
I've never used tethering before, but my first thought is to be mindful of the amount you download, in case your phone plan doesn't have unlimited data. Are you tethering to a laptop?
What @DaveHighland said. Data plans on cell phones are horrendously expensive and not very capable. It sounds like you don't have wi-fi in your cabin, is that correct?
Years ago, when wi-fi wasn't everywhere, I would gather all my emails and searches together and head out to a shopping mall, where I could find wi-fi (at an Apple store or restaurant) and spend an hour or so dawdling over a coffee or soda and complete all my online tasks. Then, I would log off, unplug, and spend the rest of my time pursuing more rewarding pursuits IRL.
I used to use my 4G phone for internet a few years back. I found that it would drop a little bit here and there, but speed and connection was mostly okay.
As OldStrummer noted, however, the limits on data per month can be a problem.
Experience varies wildly by provider and the network that they use. I had two SIMs so that if one network was bad, I could switch to the other.
