USB to SATA Adapter shows up as Generic JMicron Device

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to mount my external Lite-On DVD-RW drive via a powered USB to SATA adapter. It shows up in computer:// as shown below:

When I double click to mount

The lsusb output is as follows:

Bus 004 Device 002: ID 152d:0578 JMicron Technology Corp. / JMicron USA Technology Corp.

The drive is powered up and can eject the tray etc. just fine.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

David

I should mention that this happens with or without a disc inserted and inserting a disc has no effect. Where do I look next?

Thanks

What sort of DVD is in the drive?

Hi Wimpy,

Just a regular verbatim CD-R. I Googled the device ID and not a lot came up… Apparently it’s not a well supported chip.

Considering how cheap those slimline external dvd drives are I’m probably going to just buy one that’s definitely supported in Linux/ubuntu. Suggestions welcome…!

Thanks,

David

Hi Guys,

Just thought I’d check in with an update and say my new drive arrived and I can vouch for it:

Nice build quality, no external power needed, very lightweight and works with ubuntu out of the box.
