Video driver fiasco 14.04-16.04

So, off the wall question…Is there any way to get the graphics driver from 14.04 installed into 16.04?
My Lenovo Z50-75 would run an external display for extended desktop in 14.04 but won’t even boot in 16.04 with an external display connected. I can’t run 14.04 on this laptop without an external wifi connected because 14.04 wouldn’t run my internal wifi.
If it’s do-able, let me know what info is needed on the graphics adapter and how to pull it from the system.
This is irritating me to no end, I don’t even use the computer unless I’m booting into Windows to update my GPS or automotive scan-tool because of this issue

It would help if you said exactly which driver
Is this an NVIDIA gpu, AMD, Intel?
What driver were you using? A proprietary one, or an open source one?
