Wallpaper Changer Problems

I have been using Variety as a wallpaper changer for a few years now, and on all my PCs I have had pixelation on some of the images. The PCs I've used have had different hardware but his has happened on all of them. I believe Variety hasn't been maintained for a while now and I haven't been able to find a solution.

I've recently installed Wallch on my laptop. Wallch looks as though it should be changing the wallpaper as the notification shows a different image, however the display flickers but the wallpaper doesn't change. Also just tried the Shotwell Desktop Slideshow but that doesn't seem to work either.

So I am rather confused as to what’s going on. With the Variety problem happening on a few machines but the Wallch and Shotwell happening on a HP Pavilion G6 running Ubuntu Mate 18.10.

I would welcome any suggestions as to the reason for these problems and a suitable wallpaper changing solution.

Thanks.

Could be a setting in Variety.
In variety menu. Goto preferences, effects and under filters. These a pixelate option check box.

Just an idea tho

The last version of Variety is 0.7.2 (3 days ago)

I guess you need to specify the minimum wallpaper resolution to download to prevent pixelation.

Thanks Gents.

I think i need to tweak the display settings in Variety preferences as you both suggest. I hadn't thought about wallpaper resolution setting.

Just an update.

I updated to 19.10 and reinstalled Variety. I tweaked Variety and set image size to be at least 100% of the screen resolution. So far I have had no image or pixelation problems.

Early days to say if this a permanent fix but so far it's looking good.

Thanks again you guys.
