are the developers looking to go over to Wayland? It looks like other flavours are working on this. Or is UM staying with X?
According to this, the answer to your question is yes. At least it is planned.
More importantly, the
have already implemented and released the Wayland-based version of their code. ![]()
The actual "checklist" of having each component "adapted" to each of Wayland and Meson is listed at
My question is, when they check off "finished", that should imply full functionality migrated. Correct?
... and if not, shouldn't there be a "flag" to identify migration will only be "partial", to raise awareness that the migration is not 100% backward compatible?
I've submitted an issue on the GitHub site for the mate-power-manager Applet.
There may be another issue with mate-panel itself, if I read the following correctly:
Traditional tray icons not displayed as they use Xembed which is not supported in wayland.
Does that mean that you would lose those trays and the launchers assigned in those trays???
People may want to go over the list of "repositories" and compare that with the list of items reported as "supported", because not all repositories (a.k.a. Apps) were listed on the above checklist.

I didn’t think it was fully implemented tho. It still relies on x11? Although to be fair, I was not aware they had even started testing.
Just as a comment; but this was actually mentioned/discussed at the flavor sync meeting(s) earlier today (my local time)… not in regards questing (25.10) but with regard lts/26.04.
Not sure if it’ll appear in flavor sync notes; not everything does (as it helps people to speak ‘freely’ during meeting(s)) but they (public meeting notes) should come out within a few days.
