Weird dots displayed on grub menu

I installed Ubuntu mate 18.04 64bits over mate 16.04, but when booting, the screen displays some weird black dots on the menu selection

NB : the folder /boot/grub/themes is empty.

It also happens with Ubuntu 18.04. I’m guessing because it hasn’t reached “beta” yet that it will get fixed soon enough.

Same problem here. Changed grub resolution to 1280x800 but this did not solve the problem. Hope this will be fixed some day. But if this will stay my biggest problem

Interesting. My laptop with UM 17.10 started doing that recently, too. I thought it was just the crappy Intel graphics. I do seem to recall some updates to grub in the last week or two. Might be it.

Today after upgrading grub packages to 2.02-2ubuntu8 version the problem is solved and now the grub is displayed correctly.
