What are some ways a student like me can support Ubuntu MATE?

Hey you guys, I am Jacob, an 11th grade student going to Korea International School. I have been using Ubuntu MATE since 16.04, and still using it. I think it is about time for me to start supporting the community that I really love. I became a patron recently, but I’d like to help with the development process of Ubuntu MATE.

Here are some of my questions:

  • What skills are required for supporting the dev team?
  • How does the dev process work?
  • As a novice programmer, can I even support you guys?

Thank you

I’m not a developer, I just help test the distro by (re-)installing new versions and reporting and confirming bugs. Almost anyone can help out in this way. The more people testing the better!

My understanding is that most development happens on Github these days: MATE Desktop and Ubuntu MATE. You can see open issues there as well as on Launchpad. Some issues even have bounties you could earn by fixing them!
