Hello, What happened to the highlight (auto copy) and middle mouse button (paste) function like in 12.04? Do I need to enable something?

Has anyone found an answer to this? It seems I had this working forever via gsettings. I have reinstalled and tried to search it, but I get nothing. I miss the way X windows worked since 1984, it wasn't broke- copy on select and paste on middle click were far more efficient-- it didn't need "fixing". This is the kind of heavy handed stuff I hated about GNOME3. It seems it is like cancer and has spread to X.
