I tried to use Geary with gmail for my email but it doesn’t seem to be able to complete my contacts because it doen’t integrate well with mate. So I would like to know what others use to work with emails & contacts that doesn’t depends on half of gnome ???
I would like a solution that integrate well with mate and with not too much dependencies from another desktop.

hiii - i use thunderbird for long time and it work fine with gmail account 
I would vote for Thunderbird as well. I tried Geary a couple of times on other distros and ran into similar problems.
+1 for Thunderbird too. No problems at all with Gmail and It’s pre-installed with Ubuntu MATE (and regular Ubuntu for that matter) too. 
Thunderbird is good. I would have to say though, their is no application that beats gmail itself I think. You can install ‘Gnome Gmail’ and it will let you set the web version of gmail as your default mail client. So every time you click a mail-to link it will open the browser and goto gmail.
