Hello, when would I have to update my UM 16.04.4 l to the new version.
Thank you.
There’s no rule for this, it’s up to you to decide. You may want to wait a few weeks or monthes if you’re not too in a hurry, so eventual bugs that went unnoticed are fixed. In any case, your 16.04 is still supported for quite some time (I’m not sure if it’s april 2019 or 2021).
Thank you for responding, I have no hurry I have support until 2019. But as I have seen some users are already updating, so I asked.
I believe it will be offered to LTS users when 18.04.1 comes out later this spring or early summer. But you can always upgrade sooner if you wish.
Thanks, it’s what I plan to do.
On my system, looks like its supported until 2021.
You have 1844 packages (66.6%) supported until April 2021 (Canonical - 5y)
How did you get this info (which command)?
I think the main Ubuntu 16.04 is still supported until 2021 but I’m not so sure about the variants like Ubuntu MATE. E.g. Ubuntu 18.04 seems to be supported until 2023 while UM 18.04 (and other variants I’ve checked) are only for 3 years, until 2021.
ubuntu-support-status
Does it not return accurate info?
According to here, maintenance updates are up to 2021.
I don’t know, I didn’t know of this command.
If I run it, it tells me that there are 655 packages supported until 2021 (community packages), 2004 supported until 2023 (Canonical) and 5 supported until 2019 (community). Not sure if it depends of the way Ubuntu MATE has been installed. In any case, it seems that I can expect updates until 2021, which would fit with the 3 years support I’ve seen elsewhere.
Interesting.
I will stick with 16.04 until it is unsupported.
I have seen many posts of bugs and programs that stopped working correctly with 18.04.
I tried 18.04 hoping that my Bluetooth dongle would start working.
Tis not the case.
I submitted a bug report, but it was never assigned to anyone.
