I don't know if I am doing something wrong but I can't find any official image download for image ubuntu-mate-16.04.2-desktop-armhf-raspberry-pi.img.xz
I've been searching for hours and nothing, it's like it never existed on Ubuntu mate. Anyone has direct download link for it? I used to be able to find past releases on download page but not anymore.

where the following command can be used to download the MATE 16.04 image:
wget https://ubuntu-mate.org/raspberry-pi/ubuntu-mate-16.04.2-desktop-armhf-raspberry-pi.img.xz

Edit: Also see https://ubuntu-pi-flavour-maker.org/download/ where a torrent can be used to download the MATE 16.04 image.
A list of old images can be found here - but you'll need a torrent client. Others are still seeding (distributing) this version:
