When I do a search for "free wallpapers", I find very few that are really free.
There are no royalty wallpapers. But that is not free.
I am interested in nature wallpapers and sci-fi wallpapers.
Has anyone found any they recommend?

If you are looking for "free to modify and use as a public face for your own online profile or business", that will be almost impossible to find.
If you are looking for "free to modify and use for your own private use, on your own desktop", any of the no-royalty are acceptable because the original artist wants to protect the essence of their own "brand" as projected by the images they publish under their own name, even if those are put out for public "consumption".
I could not find anything that suggested the images on the following site have restrictions, but that doesn't mean that there aren't any:

One site used by a number of Ubuntu flavors, is
as (historically at least) their terms haven't been a problem, so I'll recommend them. All uses have been credited where used (to my knowledge at least).
FYI: do a search on this site for unsplash and you'll see loads of references etc... If I recall correctly I've even heard Martin Wimpress talk about it on a podcast too.
