Why the installer does not show software RAID 1?

Hi, why Ubuntu 24.04 MATE installer does not show software RAID 1 partitions from the previous installation? I see both parts of each raid partition instead.

Installing mdadm, recreating /dev/mdX partitions manually and then restarting the installation app doen not help - the /dev/mdX partitions are still invisible in th "manual" installation.

Does the installer of the original Ubuntu 24.04 recognize RAID 1? If yes, is there any package which changes Ubuntu into Ubuntu MATE?

Hello,

That is straightforward, i.e. when OS installer works no software RAID is nor configured, nor invoked yet. Nevertheless I agree with you that recognition (and reusing) of software RAID configuration from previous installation is a desirable option.

Software RAID is configured, as I wrote in the previous post. Maybe the installer omits RAID partitions because it does not support their configuration in the startup scripts.

Hi, @d01010101

To supplement the good answer that @ugnvs has already given in this topic, I've found the following Bug report in Launchpad, reported by Marc Debruyne on 17th April 2024, for the then development version of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS ("Noble Numbat"), for the mdadm package, which currently (29th September 2024) has the observation that "This bug affects 6 people":
