Wifi connections not being discovered

I'm running the recommended version for the raspberry pi 3 model B+ (18.04). The Wi-Fi icon in the top right corner of my desktop is just two arrows going in opposite directions, and when I click on it, it says under Wi-Fi Networks "device not ready". I modified quite a few Wi-Fi configuration files to solve a previous problem, so is there any file or something that I might have messed up? Thanks in advance

I suggest you start with system logs to see if sonething is being shown either at boot time or when you check status.
Apart from that you could consider a fresh install and check to see if wifi works before making any changes.

Thanks for talking some sense into me :grinning:. A simple reinstallation solved everything. I'm so relieved that there weren't any real problems I had to fix.
