I am going to install ubuntu mate for my new pc .
does it contain UEFI support , I don not want to touch much of UEFI/BIOS settings , so presumably the PC will come with secure boot enabled.
It did for me. No touching the bios at all with a new PC.
Most likely, a new PC will install Ubuntu MATE just fine under UEFI and with secure boot enabled.
The way it works is that “signed” operating systems (like Windows and Ubuntu) need to have trusted keys in the UEFI/BIOS in order to boot them, so some manufacturers / older UEFI hardware without the those keys will need to disable secure boot.
Ubuntu 18.04 supports UEFI and Secure Boot. During the installation process you will be asked to create a password that will be required again after the installation process is complete. You will be prompted to enter the password again on the first boot of the new installation, do so and the boot process will continue normally.

I remember being asked to create a password that will be required again after the installation process is complete which I did, but I was never prompted for the password. Never had a booting issue.
