Win 7 remote desktop connection can't run Kodi

hi all
am on 15.10 mate and using ms rdc ( for ease ) and all good for most things BUT when I try to run Kodi nothing happens. I click on the icon on the ubuntu machine nothing comes up??? Did I miss something? I am using Kodi installed from software center ( 15.1) so it’s not the latest but…

If I run kodi actually sitting at the machine all is fine.

ANY help would be excellent.

I presume Kodi is failing to start because there isn’t any hardware acceleration over a remote desktop. Typing kodi into the terminal will output any error messages.

I presume you’re using xrdp?

first of all thank you for the quick response really helps a noob, truly.
second you presume correctly I am using xrdp which I am proud to say I started using systemctl :slight_smile: noobs are easily pleased!!!

Thirdly thanks so much for the pointer about typing kodi into a terminal. I am so used to icons I completely forgot that could be done, what a dullard !

SO it dumped out with the errors below AND a pointer to a log file which is below the “++++” I will look at it tomorrow BUT if you or anyone else can shed some light onto what is going on here I would be most grateful. I also found some other diagnostic info that might help you help me :slight_smile: it’s below the “%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%”

thanks again Lah7 you are great

I “think” this might be an answer to my problem can anyone comment please? I am trying to answer it as well but I need to check if I am about to do something bad.

			@Stager

The simplest way is to make a symlink from /var/run/lirc/lircd to /dev/lircd:

Code:

ln -s /var/run/lirc/lircd /dev/lircd

This Symlink will be deleted at the next reboot, so you should add the following line to the Script /etc/init.d/lirc:

Code:

[ -h “/dev/lircd” ]||ln -s /var/run/lirc/lircd /dev/lircd

I added the line at the end of the start)-Block, this means before these lines

Code:

;;

stop)

    if $START_LIRCMD; then

Edit: This solved my problems with Lirc too

			Theoreticaly, another way - set

REMOTE_SOCKET="/dev/lircd"

in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf

But it works strangely - after reboot “irw /dev/lircd” not worked. Ir control XBMC - too.

If say “/etc/init.d/lirc restart” - “irw /dev/lircd” worked. If after this restart XBMC - ir control worked too.
