Win10 HDD read only

I am running UM 17.10 from an USB connected SSD. Since last year it does work well. I have Win10 on the Acer HDD.
Today when trying to cut and paste a file from UM to the HDD using the file manager (which I’ve done many times) it tells me that the HDD is read only…
Re-starting doesn’t help.
I’ve searched the web and Ubuntu forum - without finding anything that looks like this. All solutions seem to be for something else or way to complicated for the issue.

Thanks for your ideas

Win 10 doesn’t really shut down normally, it basically hibernates the kernel for faster boot. This means disks aren’t unmounted. You need to find the option for “Fast Boot”, usually in your bios options and turn it off.

Also, if you hold down the shift key while clicking restart or shutdown in Win10 (or 8/8.1 for that matter), it will bypass fast boot for that session.

Seems that the shift key did the trick.
