My 20.04 install of Ubuntu MATE has a small peculiar issue. When tiling programme windows, they leave about 10 pixels of background open between the window and any other windows or the edge of the screen. How do I stop this, make them join fully together? Thanks!
Ubuntu Mate 20.04 LTS is already End of Life as reported here.
Don't forget Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, which was released in 2020-April is nearing the end of its five years of supported life too (April 2025, though an extra one month grace period is expected), so I do suggest you plan your release-upgrade if using your system on-line.
AFAIK, that is a feature, not a bug. Some pixels around visible window boundary are intentionally made transparent. I do not know if that can be controlled using (theme?) configuration.
Please could you post a screenshot of the problem? That will help visualise things since I'm not entirely sure.
It may also be worth confirming what window manager you're currently using. The MATE Tweak program → "Windows" tab will specify this.
Like mentioned above, it would be worth backing up and upgrading to 22.04 (or again to 24.04), as it could've been fixed in the past few years.
