You need to load kernel first

Hi
I was just trying a full install of UM 24.04.3 LTs on a laptop for a friend leaving Windoze behind
Install seems got done with no issue
But when rebooting, then no UM booting…. I get to the Grub.
Trying ‘boot’, I get a ‘‘Need to load kernel first’’ error
What gives ?

p.s. not quite a good first impression…

I also had trouble doing a full install of 24.04.3 on my Lenovo laptop. It failed miserably, but I don't remember whether the symptoms were the same as you are reporting.

I solved the issue by installing 22.04 instead, and then doing an online upgrade to 24.04. I can't guarantee that will help, but thought I'd mention it.

Good idea
I may try that

There have been MANY issues reported for fresh installs of UM 24.04, because there was an installer issue.

If the computer has UEFI, you may want to review this:

It shows again that there is no point trying to make better what works already
I refer to the installer, here

The problem doesn’t seem to exist with other Ubuntu flavours - does it ?

It did work the way you described. Now upgrading to further versions.
Much easier and intuitive solution then ‘playing’ around with the grub
Thanks
