Whilst I'd prefer people to visit Martin's post on Ubuntu Discourse; I've pasted it here should any not want to visit that site, so as to get the largest audience possible for the request for help.
I certainly don't have those kind of skills. Is this then end of Ubuntu Mate? I hope not, but if it is I will move on to Mint Mate when that happens, it is the closet to Ubuntu Mate I have found. The thing I would miss the most would be this forum. Well if that happens I will stay until the last minute.
No it is not.
Technically this is my 'second reply', but I've deleted my first, which you may have briefly seen (before I noticed what I was quoting from, link I used & thus deleted it), but I was trying to quote from a 'not yet public' post which shows that the Ubuntu MATE flavor still has 'hope'.
I'll add more if/when I can.
I hope not. It is the best OS I have ever used with the best forum ever. Will Martin still be working on the Mate desktop, or is he off on other projects?
I hope not, too. The ability to make it look like however I want-- that's a great thing (I don't remember stock Ubuntu or Peppermint having that ability). I used stock Ubuntu back when Windows XP EOLd, and Peppermint back in 2018 for a while-- had a great forum, too. I have Latte dock and worked on Github to get Cairo Dock working again, after not having CD work for a long time--but the Dock has people working on it again. Then there's also Plank ( a Mac-like look) and Redmond. Or, I can make the desktop look like Unity. I can do all sorts of combinations to create whatever I want. I use the background switcher, Variety, which also has a big clock/ date that I can easily see and can make appear however I want, through tweaking the variety.conf file; having the clock/ date onscreen, I can also use the looks provided by Tweak--Traditional, Contemporary and Familiar. I also like the Boutique, and am just going to stay on Jammy until 2032, or if I am forced to another OS.
I agree about the awesomeness of this forum. Iโm a long-time Mint user, going back to 2013, but only just discovered Ubuntu-MATE in the past few months Sad to hear of the end of this forum. I actually came to U-MATE from Lubuntu, in part because of this standalone forum!
A huge thank-you to Martin for all the stellar work on this distro, which is really one of the gems of the Linux world.
Looks like the forum continues, just on Discourse. That means changes, but we don't really know what changes.
