Just an update to this – a lot of focus in the 17.10 has been on polishing the desktop experience – fixing bugs, being stable and @wimpy solving technical challenges along the way.
This means that Welcome and the “new” Software Boutique hasn’t had too much focus in this cycle as originally planned, but these new features are definitely coming for 18.04 LTS, so hang tight!
