Bootable ISO image of a customized version of Ubuntu Mate - is it possible?
My situation: I want to install Ubuntu Mate with updates and additional software on a number of computers to send to a village in Africa that has no internet. I want to make a ‘master version’ DVD, so that the setup can be recreated by the users on site in case of a software problem.
Relevance for others and for Ubuntu Mate: This is of potential relevance to a lot of people that use computers on such settings – and Ubuntu Mate is a strong OS candidate for that.
Suggestion in this forum: One solution suggested on here in this forum How to make a custom version of ubuntuMATE for thumb drive use? does not seem to work (see under Ubuntu Builder below).
Possible solutions: The following projects seems interesting. However, it is beyond my knowledge to conclude anything. Has anybody any experience with any of the following or others that work?
- Distroshare Ubuntu Imager (https://github.com/Distroshare/distroshare-ubuntu-imager)
- Customizer (https://github.com/kamilion/customizer)
Unlikely solutions: The following projects are (or seems to be) discontinued:
- Ubuntu Builder (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5450581/help/help.html#Step%201) (all of the URL links on the home page of the creator are not functioning. This strongly suggests that the project is not active or working)
- Novo Builder (http://www.cyvoc.net/novoweb/index.html)
- Remastersys (http://alternativeto.net/software/remastersys/)
- Ubuntu Customization Kit (https://sourceforge.net/projects/uck/)
