Caja autorun/autoplay not working

I’ve installed 17.04 Ubuntu MATE and I really like the polish, customisation and integration this DE has.

However, I’ve noticed that when I insert media (DVD disc, USB drive etc) all I get is the icon on the desktop. I have to manually open the media with the relevant software. Caja controls these things yet nothing else happens. I have checked Caja’s settings as in this post:

Encrypted DVDs Do Not Autoplay

I have installed Ubuntu Mate 15.04. When I insert an audio CD or a non-commercial DVD into the drive a window will appear asking me what I want to do. I know how to change the settings to cause the disk to automatically play with a particular program (e.g. VLC). However, when I insert a encrypted DVD into the drive this window does not appear. I am, however, able to open VLC and play the encrypted DVD without any problems so I am sure that all the software needed to actually play the DVD i…

but not even autoprompt runs. I can’t find an option in dconf to enable/disable and there doesn’t appear to be any related plugin or package in repositories. My question - is this the default behaviour or is there a way to activate Autoplay/Autorun?

EDIT:
I should have said the version I was using was 17.04 and is the first time I’ve tried Ubuntu MATE. I’ve since installed 16.04 and the problem is not there in the LTS version.

It was yet another regression in MATE 1.18.

Issue: [1.18] "Browse media when inserted" option is broken

It’s now fixed upstream in Caja 1.18.4.
