Computer Freeze to a White Screen with Colorful Lines

Hi,

I’m having this issue in one of my old computers. Everything works perfectly and then all of a sudden the computer freezes to a white screen with colorful lines. This happens every time I use the computer, but sometimes I can use the computer for over an hour before this happens and sometimes it happens in the first 15 minutes.

Thanks in Advance,

John…

Hi John

What video driver are you using?

Could it be time for a cleaning? Pop the cover and look for dust.

Have you checked for bad ram?

Please post your computer specs. Open a terminal and enter…

inxi -b

Hi John,

have you done a full system update?:

I did clean the motherboard, here are the specs:

System: Host: x3c1 Kernel: 4.2.0-34-generic x86_64 (64 bit)
Desktop: MATE 1.10.2 Distro: Ubuntu 15.10 wily
Machine: System: TAR product: N61PB-M2S v: 6.0
Mobo: TAR model: N61PB-M2S v: 1.0
Bios: Phoenix v: 6.00 PG date: 06/29/2010
CPU: Dual core AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (-MCP-) speed/max: 1800/2600 MHz
Graphics: Card: NVIDIA C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430]
Display Server: X.org 1.17.2 drivers: nouveau (unloaded: fbdev, vesa)
tty size: 80x24 Advanced Data: N/A for root
Network: Card: NVIDIA MCP61 Ethernet driver: forcedeth

Info: Processes: 161 Uptime: 3 min Memory: 523.6/3825.3MB

And your system is fully updated? I see your using nouveau drivers, is that the best choice for you? You can check your drivers in the ‘Welcome Screen’ under Getting Started>Drivers. I believe this is covered in Wolfman’s tutorial.

Check the graphics drivers guide, I have Nvidia too and you should install in recovery mode! (Network cable connection required!):

I downloaded the Nvidia proprietary drivers and my problem was solved.

Thanks.
