Dell XPS 13 9350 - Screen flickering, cursor and keyboard back light problems

Hello Ubuntu community,

I recently switched from Windows to linux (Ubuntu mate 16.04) and are a novice in the Linux world. Since the installation my new laptop is facing following issues:

  • random screen flickering
  • cursor jumps to the bottom left corner when I want to click on something.
  • keyboard backlight will turn itself on after i turned it off.

Thanks for everyone who trys to help with this issues.

First, are you fully updated?

Also Check the section on video drivers. This could be the problem.

And please post your computer specs (helps with trouble shooting). Open a terminal and enter code:

inxi -b

Post back with any questions :slight_smile:

Thanks for the help. Like you asked I've gathered the spec of me system. ?

I also updated and upgraded my system with the following command : sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade...

What I didn't understand completely is the process with the network cable. To boot and update the system. Is this something I accomplished with the commands from above or do I have to do this as well

You would not be able to update if your not connected to the internet and you would get terminal errors. I see you have already upgraded your driver. Your computer specs are better than good.

It may help with the backlight problem to change the setting to vendor.

acpi_backlight=vendor located in /etc/default/grub
