the title says it all (Grub loaded to a different partition after upgrading 16.10 to 17.04), after upgrading UM16.10 via the terminal and restarting, Grub had loaded to partition /sda10 and not /sda as it should have done, I didn’t take much interest at the update process so only noticed what had happened after a reboot.
Further to the above problem, it did not have any entries for my other Ubuntu Mate installations ( /sda6 & /sda8) nor did it show my Windows 10 install?.
I did the update via the terminal using the following command:
sudo do-release-upgrade -d
Is this a bug or by design?.
I used the live CD and Boot Repair to fix it no problem.

Could this have anything to do with the "loss" of the swap partition - see
Someone asked (perhaps not in this post) what was the need/use for a swap partition - as far as i know on modern computers with lots of RAM it only really gets used if you put the computer into "hibernation" (the current session is saved to the swap when hibernating).
