Installing Terratec Cinergy Hybrid Stick

You would be surprised at the difference between Windows and Linux TV reception qualities but please try the following.

  1. Go to Windows and run the stick and select a channel, I would choose one of the national channels if you live a distance from the transmitter as they tend to be stronger?, check what signal strength you are getting and leave the antenna in the same position when you restart Linux.

  2. Try Kaffeine first and make sure that the hardware is showing in the settings menu, then try me-tv after shutting Kaffeine down.

  3. Take a deep breath and don’t bang your head against a wall as it hurts!.

Signal strength 96%
He should at least find one station if the antenna is too weak for some, don’t you think?
Maybe this is a sign to stop watching TV?
Maybe if I buy another stick?
On the other hand : they are changing to DVB- t 2 in Germany soon.

Signal strength AND QUALITY is what you need!, signal strength can be 100% but if you have a low signal on the “quality” side of things, you won’t get a signal, I have played around with DVB-T enough to know that!.

30 or 40% quality signal strength is good, but 60/70% is better!. Ideally, you want 100% on both strength and quality!.

You still haven’t told me what type of antenna you are using?. :frowning:

As far as DVB-T2 in Germany goes, see this link (I bought a new DVB-T2 receiver by the way. 31 Mai gehts los!):

http://dvb-t2hd.de/

Apart from that, I don’t really know what else to say as I can only help you so much, I know it is frustrating but keep at it and you will get there in the end, it took me a long time to figure things out with my various DVB-T devices!.

Good luck. Gotta go now and I will look back later.

I am still using the stick Antenna.
He should at least find one station. If its the antenna.
Thank you again for your support.
Maybe the company is answering my email after all.

Do you have the stick antenna pointing straight up?, move it to the 11 O'clock position and try scanning, if it doesn't work, try moving the antenna in different positions (1 O'c, 2 O'c and so on) and keep scanning until you can get at least one group and then you will know that it is at least working!.

LET IT COMPLETE THE SCAN BEFORE YOU CHANGE THE POSITION OF THE ANTENNA AND START AGAIN!.

Pointing the Antenna in different directions did not make a difference.
Signal strength and quality under Windows are about 94%

I will let this rest now.
Thank you so much, Wolfman.

Hi,

shame we can’t mark this as solved! :frowning:

Before you invest in a new DVB-T stick, make sure it is DVB-T2 as you live in Germany and will need the new HEVC (H265) codec so you can receive the upcoming HD channels!.

Good luck and if I think of anything else; I will let you know.

Hi @MandalaMatrix,

did you check the “TerraTec” section of this page?:

https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/DVB-Karten/

Yes I did.
My stick is not listed.
I will try some of the others, maybe they will work.

Stick with my Id is nowhere to be found:
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0ccd:00a5 TerraTec Electronic GmbH Cinergy Hybrid Stick

Hi @MandalaMatrix,

I have found that it is supported in the kernel, see the info below and the link I retrieved the info from:

Terratec Cinergy Hybrid Stick

:heavy_check_mark: Yes, in kernel since 2.6.35

0ccd:00a5 USB2.0

xc3028L-v36.fw (Firmware)

http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/DVB-T_USB_Devices

So the only real reason it isn’t working should be that you aren’t getting a signal because the stick is supported by the kernel and the installation of the “linux-nonfree-firmware” isn’t necessary!.

Is your kernel higher than 2.5.35?.

Paste the following command in a terminal:

uname -r

and you will get a readout like the following:

wolfman@fred:~$ uname -r
4.4.0-17-generic
wolfman@fred:~$

I assume you have more or less the same kernel as me?, all I can suggest now is you remove the linux-nonfree-firmware package and run “bleachbit”, then reboot, then put the stick in and see what happens!.

sudo apt-get remove linux-nonfree-firmware

sudo apt-get install bleachbit

https://www.bleachbit.org/

Let me know what happens.

This is my version:
4.4.0-16-generic

I did what you requested.
Still no reception.

Hi,

according to this page:

you need to go to the link below and follow the instructions using the “EM2870” (EM28XX) firmware, please read it carefully in case I have misunderstood what has been written/said!.

https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Archiv/em28xx/

There is no guarantee that it will work and/or; not damage your system. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!.
