The observant among you will have noticed that the MATE packages in my PPAs for Precise and Trusty have been brought up to date. For Precise I have also fixed the Ambiant-MATE and Radiant-MATE themes so they work correctly on the older GTK implementations.
This hopefully demonstrates my commitment to the LTS model.
I’ve just installed Mate 1.8 on top of the Ubuntu 64 bit mini-iso in Virtualbox and it is running like a dream All themes now fully integrated. Also running noticeably faster than my main Ubuntu Mate 14.04 host machine despite looking and acting, for all the world, completely identical to the host! Really nice job Martin. So nice, in fact, I am seriously considering having another go at re-installing Precise+Mate as my full desktop in order to get LTSP functionality back.
One question though; The mini iso will almost certainly not have the required drivers for my wireless card. That being the case, I can install Precise plus Mate via an ethernet connection. However, having once done that, am I right in assuming I will be able to then install the wireless card having once logged into Mate, while still ethernet connected?
As it turned out, installing the 12.04 Precise server, running update and upgrade and then installing Mate, all via ethernet, the wireless driver was automatically installed somewhere in that process. Thus, I didn’t have to do anything manually to get it working.
