Yes, I prefer traditional. I hate Docks.
Windows control are separate from Theme.
I simply made the buttons appear on the right side.

Thanks! It's very nice of you to say so.
Got inspired by @qwertyuiopasdfghjklz and customized UM 18.04 32bit on a Thinkpad X40 with 1Gb of ram into a vintage ubuntu 6.04
Do you guys remember this video that was included in your home directory ?
It's amazing how possible it is to customize Ubuntu MATE and taste the same experience that we got as kids after so many years
Do you have any info on where is the Ubuntu 4.10 theme? (the one with the boxy windows and controls)
You could try getting the iso of 4.10, run it as a VM, then find the theme files in /usr/share/themes, gzip them as tars, then transfer them over to your newer MATE.
@BioHazard is right
I saw some of them here :
http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/4.10/
I will download it too to have some system sounds
Here comes themes / icons and so on from the 6.04 ubuntu
I took :
backgrounds icons images sounds themes
The 4.10 is still installing ... it do not have live boot, will post it too asap
Here it is : (I suffered as in proxmox the mouse on this old 2004 ubuntu is not working and shortcuts do not open terminal xD)
As long as it is taylored to your workflow, it is cool.
You can do whatever you want with your desktop. It's the magic of MATE.
Nice Yaru MATE theme, btw. 21.04 cannot come soon enough.
Personally I like "not fancy" myself, I find a busy desktop hard to use. Plain and simple is the best for me. KIS (keep it simple) principle.
My current desktop. Basically Bluebird but with Oxygen icon theme and whiteglass as the cursor theme.
Here's another update on my desktop. I found out WindowsFX is Ubuntu MATE (from the login screen), so here it is.
Windows 10 ;3
I hope you will not get encrypted with this theme xD
I don't see any mention of the MATE desktop on
https://www.linuxfx.org/index.php/sistemas-operacionais/windowsfx-10-7
Looks like Cinnamon to me (especilaly since your screenshot shows Nemo as a file manager).
Wrong forum.
It is MATE because the Login window looks awfully similar to it. But yes, it is the Cinnamon desktop. (The login screen is the same but with a different cursor)
It looks like this
(https://kimbriggs.com/images/reviews/ubuntu-mate-1804-login-fail.jpg)
But with the Win10 wallpaper and a different cursor
The top status bar is the same
Lol.
What you're showing is
It is a greeter for LightDM, the display manager.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LightDM
It's not part of the MATE Desktop and is used by many distributions.
Since you know this is the Cinnamon Desktop environment (and not MATE), you know as well this screenshot of a distribution that steals assets from Microsoft Windows 10 has nothing to do in the Ubuntu MATE screenshots post.
