New features for Ubuntu MATE 15.04

I’ve had a one man sprint this evening. Here are the new features I’ve been working on for Ubuntu MATE 15.04:

All of the above should land in time for the 15.04 Beta 2 release.

Caja-Actions will definitely be a great addition to Ubuntu MATE. I have used Nautilus and Nemo actions in the past and they greatly help in increasing productivity. One question though - Do you plan to use .desktop files as used by Nautilus or a different extension such as .nemo_action to invoke the scripts? Although the syntax is pretty much the same, it will improve compatibilty with actions existing for other file managers on the internet.

Agreed. I use extensively for my automation projects. It’s the first thing I install.

Just out of interest, how are you currently installing Caja Actions on Ubuntu MATE?

I’m being lazy and installing the deb from https://github.com/NiceandGently/caja-actions

Works perfectly on all my instances of Ubuntu MATE

@rohithmadhavan I’ll use whatever Caja Actions supports by default.

@Wimpy Caja Actions supports .desktop files by default. It is a particularly good choice since all the Nautilus actions should work with Caja actions too.

Confirmed. Caja and Nautilus actions are interoperable. If you’ve created one in either they’ll work in the other. The config tools will even pick them up if you completely swap out one DE for another.

Will this relase be using systemd?

@xaitec The upcoming 15.04 beta 2 will, yes :slight_smile:

Hope its a smooth transition. at least for the services.

Do you think systemd will be provided by update, or we will have to make a fresh install ?

It hit last night…I haven’t done the update yet…chicken I will break my system…lol

Updated and rebooted without a single issue (for now).

I made some sceenshots:

Before update:

During update:

End of update:

After reboot:

Systemctl running:

EDIT: Had a picture of systemctl running

More info Alan Pope G+
Colin Law said to activate it in the boot menu. And indeed there is an option.
The reboot went normally, hard to tell if it is quickier ot not (maybe a couple of secondes).

There is the first lines of my journalctl:
