Panels are missing - what to do?

Ubuntu Mate 24.04. Up to date.

I came back to the computer, unlocked, and found that all my panels were missing. I have two monitors, and panels top and bottom on each.

I'm not sure if there is any way to get them back without logging out and in again, and how would I do that anyway?

What I did, since I had a shell window open, was 'sudo reboot' and logged in again.

Are there better choices?

Thanks

This is and older post but might be of help and provide a quick solution

I'll clarify this a little bit.

$ mate-panel --help

Application Options:
  --replace Replace a currently running panel
  --reset Reset the panel configuration to default

Your first choice option is mate-panel --replace, because the --reset option will reset your panel customizations (like panel placement, applets, launchers, etc.).

By default, you should be able to open a terminal with Ctrl + Alt + T if you need a terminal to replace the panel.

In addition to the command for replacing the panel given above, you can also open MATE Tweak and switch away from, and then back to, your layout (if you have saved a custom layout). In the terminal, run mate-tweak to bring the app up.

Many thanks for all the responses. I tested ctrl-alt-t, so I have that in my bag of tricks. I also installed tweak and explored that.

Is there a permanent fix for this?
