I'm not sure you understand. I've used the raspberry PI's camera, with Raspbian for a number of years, with both PI1 and PI2. I am now trying out ubuntu-mate for my new RPI 3 and am happy with it, but can't use the the camera.

There are other references in the forum where people are trying to make the raspicam work, but I have not seen any definitive solution. Here are a couple of other questions posted:

Does MATE support raspberry camera module?

Hi, I’ve installed MATE on my raspberry Pi2 B with camera module, but can’t find camera device. There is no reaps-config installed so I edit /boot/config.txt manually with the following configuration: start_x=1 gpu_mem=256 and then reboot, but nothing happened. I am wondering that if MATE has built the device module for Camera? I also check with vcgencmd get_config command it says variable is unknown. Does someone know this? Regards, David

Is the GPU memory change required for the Pi Camera module or just generally the right thing to do? Thanks for the feedback, this is how we improve

My intent is to install motion on Ubuntu-Mate. Motion is available for the RPI using Raspian via apt-get, and that can detect the built in camera. I'm interested in a way to install the same, but on Ubuntu-Mate instead.
