Hi. I've gone back to 20.04 and my desktop won't recognize the monitor. I've gone to Sceptre's website, but couldn't find the driver for my monitor; Sceptre E205W-16003R. I'm also having Nvidia driver issues--I haven't done that much on this front, but have the Geforce GTX 1650. Thanks.
Hi Anthony
Let's tackle the monitor-driver issue first:
This may come as a surprise but monitor drivers do not actually exist.
That may sound a bit weird but let me explain:
Monitor drivers are not drivers at all so what is it then ?
Monitor "drivers" are at most a bundle of software that contains:
- ICC color profiles (only used by one or two applications like photoshop)
- workarounds for EDID firmware bugs
(check that link for some backgound info about it)
So "monitor drivers" don't do any driver work at all.
It is a misnomer invented by display manufacturers to hide the ugly truth of the bugs in their product. Those so called "monitordrivers" are also MS-windows only because displaymanufacturers are flipping the bird to anything non-windows.
All is lost then ?
No, you definitely NOT need them to get a functioning monitor.
Everything comes down to your NVidia issues. A working NVidia driver will get you a working monitor.
The only thing you need now is a working driver which, in the case of NVidia promises to be quite an interesting hunt.
( I ditched NVidia many years ago and what I have left of it are GPUs in some ancient laptops that I have and they are running on Nouveau drivers so I can't help you on your quest in search for the right NVidia drivers for your GPU. My sincere apologies for that)
I really hope someone on this forum with a Geforce GTX 1650 will chime in and help out.
Anyway, good luck on your quest
Thanks for the great explanation. All is okay now--I have the proper Nvidia driver. Thanks.
