[SOLVED] - Need help fixing the weather applets on the MATE Panel

Since I was unable to upgrade to MATE v1.28.2, maybe someone could help fix the weather applet on the MATE Panel, since it quit working quite a few months ago.
I have research and tried to no avail. I even copied the libmateweather.so.1.6.9 from a working MATE 1.28.2 install on another PC and replaced mine, but the applets quit working altogether.

EDIT:

I was able to get the weather applet up and running again.
First, I made a backup copy of the existing, non-working “libmateweather.so.1.6.9” file.
After that, I simply copied the “libmateweather.so.1.6.9” file from another PC with EndeavourOS and MATE v1.28.2 into my “/usr/local/lib/”
And the applets started working instantly, no reboot necessary.

It has been a challenge for MATE to keep up with the weather source changes. Latest fix can be found here:

https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/i-broke-weather-applet/26928/51

Read to the bottom about installing libsoup-3.0-dev first.

If you are willing to do a little work, you could look at what is offered here

As for conky related stuff in general, the following posts offer some examples and insights:

sudo cp /</PATH/TO/WORKING-FILE>/libmateweather.so.1.6.9 /usr/local/lib/libmateweather.so.1.6.9

Thank you for your answer. That is an older method, which worked until about 7-8 months ago, but for some reason, last time I tried that it no longer worked.
I did however found a somewhat rudimentary fix…
I will marked the post as SOLVED and explain what I did.

Thanks, Eric.
I dabbled into Conky years ago, even published one on Gnomelook.org

I’m past “bells and whistles”, my desktop is 100% clean.
I solved the problem, at least for now, I will edit initial post and explain.

That was some very nice work! But like you said, bells & whistles, and a bit more than what I was aiming for my own.

Yup, I rather look at a nice tropical beach and the Monument Valley on my 2 monitors…

My own vibe has now shifted to a recent Resolute wallpaper candidate, which I've modified as follows:
