Ubuntu 16.04 xenial Intermittently Freezes

Every once in a while (just often enough to be very annoying) my laptop will just freeze. I can see everything on the screen, no changes between the laptop working and it freezing…and it will simply freeze in such a way that i can’t use the mouse, keyboard, or anything else.

$ inxi -ACDMNSG returns the following…

Hi Larry

Have you checked to see if this is swap kicking in? In terminal:

free -m

Hi @larryb,

have you done a full system update?:

Have you installed any ATI/AMD drivers as they can be problematic at the moment?:

I can’t check the swap because when it freezes i can’t do anything…even access the terminal.

I just now went through the Welcome screen and fixed some stuff with the software as in the website that you linked to…some broken packages, dependencies, etc.

I am using a proprietary driver:
Processor microcode firmware for AMD CPUs from amd64-microcode

Okay but is it fixed or are you still having problems because of the graphics card drivers?:

Wanted to wait for enough time to make sure it was fixed…and just as i was going to post that it is fixed i read your post…how providential!

Thanks so much for your help…truly appreciated!

Updating the system according to the first link worked like a charm…Thanks!
