Ubuntu MATE 20.04 LTS is out!

This is the best release Mate has, a lot of fixes implemented,...
As much I have complained in the past regarding different issues, right now nothing, everything is smooth.
We have to thank you to all Mate Developers, they have done an amazing Job.
This Desktop is rock solid...

I have read the man page but I didn't understand what I have to do. Am I the only one with this problem? could you point me to a howto page for dummies?
Thanks, Silvano

Hi,

I only recently updated from 16.04 to 18.04 and much prefer MATE to the standard Ubuntu experience. I've read a lot of controversy about Ubuntu moving to standardize on Snaps rather than Debs, is this also the case with MATE? and if so what are users experiences of it.

Cheers

Andrew

ItĀ“s great but the vpn icons are even more broken, sadly:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate/+bug/1879951

did you fix your upgrade problem?

Yes. I find out that I had to clean up the rpository file where some lines referred to an old non-LTS version.
Thnaks, sfulli

I came back to Ubuntu MATE from Manjaro MATE on my laptop (still using Manjaro on my desktop), because of a make-or-break software package, Aqualung, a must-have music player for me. I tried Manjaro and it compiled Aqualung in under 5 minutes and I was hooked. I use Aqualung to produce my radio show (currently on hiatus for the obvious reasons), and, suddenly, the AUR version of Aqualung returned makefile errors, both aqualung and aqualung-git.

Last night, I tried Ubuntu MATE in a VM and successfully compiled Aqualung.

Make or break. I installed Ubuntu MATE on my laptop (a fairly serious laptop; it's an Acer Nitro 5 with a Ryzen 5 2500U. I upgraded it with a SSD and 32GB RAM), then I spent something over an hour installing dependencies for gtk+ (a dependency for Aqualung) and for Aqualung, and compiling gtk+ and Aqualung, somewhat longer than using the AUR, but I do have it.

Manjaro's MATE is not quite as advanced as Ubuntu MATE's MATE, and it's nice to be back.

Hi I know I'm late to the party. I'm just curious as to why this post/news about 20.04 release is not shown in Planet Mate feed?

I'm not sure who controls the Planet MATE website, but I think it's because the RSS feed on there is broken, so it's not pulling the newer blog posts from the Ubuntu MATE website.

Thanks. I hope someone in the loop will let them know.

I really don't like having the clock applet replaced by an indicator. It really wasn't necessary, I don't understand why it has been done because now putting the clock on the center is impossible. THat narrow the customization options, and I don't think it's a good thing at all.

You can add the exact same indicator without the clock (notifications applet) to your panel and add a separate clock and put it wherever you want.

Hi vato,

I had the same problem but mine was to do with some of the wine packages being held back.

I removed these packages and was able to upgrade smoothly
