I am trying to install Ubuntu Mate on my System76 Bonobo 8.
I’ve been running into the same problem when it comes to booting up from the USB.
the error I receive is nouveau 0000:01:00.0 disp chid 0 mthd 0080 data 00000000 10005080 00000004
0000:01:00.0 disp chid 2 mthd 0080 data 00000000 10005080 00000004
@elcste, thanks for the link. Unfortunately, I can't even get grub to come up. I have to type "Live" because the boot option comes up (USB live bug). From that point, I get the following error:
nouveau 0000:01:00.0 disp chid 0 mthd 0080 data 00000000 10005080 00000004
0000:01:00.0 disp chid 2 mthd 0080 data 00000000 10005080 00000004
Then I will get the Ubuntu mating loading screen. The computer will then switch between the Ubuntu loading screen and the nouveau errors until something triggers a screen with a cursor in the top left corner of the monitor and just stays there. Really disappointed right now because I really want Ubuntu Mate on this laptop.
Hi there,
The best solution to this would be to install Ubuntu normally, and then add MATE after with this command:
sudo apt install mate-desktop-environment-extras
The Ubuntu-MATE installer may be configured differently than the standard Ubuntu Unity installer, and Unity is integrated into Ubuntu in funny ways, so we recommend having both, and just using MATE, rather than using the Ubuntu-MATE installer.
@system76, thanks for the link. It kind of blows that I just can’t run the Ubuntu Mate installer. I’ll try your solution. Wish Wimpy and the team could figure a way to get around this. I love their project as I have used it on other laptops. Didn’t really expect much of an issue with a System76 laptop.
