Upgrade from Ubuntu Mate 17.10 to Ubuntu Mate 18.04

Hi, I am a relative Ubuntu Mate newbie running 17.10 and hoping to update to 18.04. However the software updater is not offering 18.04 even after all the suggested changes are made to the software settings. I understand that I can do a new install but was wondering if there is something short of that to get an automatic upgrade. Any help appreciated!

Have you tried setting the “Notify me of a new Ubuntu version” dropdown menu to “For any new version” in software settings, and then running the software updater again?

Thanks for the response. Yes, I have changed this setting several times, also changed server, both result in no upgrade offered.

Upgrade from 17.10 to 18.04 Won't Offer "Upgrade" Option

I also tried the update manager command, update-manager -c -d, which only worked as expected after I changed the third tab in ‘Software and Updates’ to “Notify me of a new Ubuntu version - For any new version”. “For long-term support versions” kept the command in complete ignorance of the new 18.04 release as you said. And I did not have to upgrade either. Thanks elcste for a great explanation.
