Useful Tool - 3rd-Party - Cartoonify a self-portrait

For those looking for a relatively good (free, web-based) "cartoonifying" service, I would like to bring your attention to the following site:

This is the tool that I used to create an image that I am now using for my avatar. In my case, I chose the "Bahaus" styling/method, which seemed to be just a notch better than my second choice, the "Black A ...".

I include the two full-size caricatures (neither is the original) for comparison.

Style: Bahaus
(fairly close re-imagining, without being identical, but in line with my true image; of course, given my age of 70, there should be more gray in my hair and eyebrows)

Style: Black A...
(actually a very good pencil-sketch rendering of my face, derived from my photo in that same pose from a wedding some years back)

Style: Felted
(definitely a "different" look)

Style: Kawall
(another "different" look)

Style: Claymation
(another "different" look)

Style: Cyberpunk
(another "different" look)

Style: Genshi
(another "different" look)

Style: Dreamworks
(and one final look)

They have at least 100+ "filters" for transforming your photos into caricatures ... and more if you pay for the subscription service!

And I thought it was nice to see a face mapped to the username ... I've been fooled! :sparkles: Looks good though.

Personally I like to keep photos local, so I've played about with local AI models for images (and video) using this front-end:

It has potential if you know the right prompts to use - which effectively is like the "DIY" version of what online tools do. Depends on the model too.

The best cartoony AI image I had generated was using DALL-E 3, it transformed the family dog into a "Disney" (cartoon) and "Pixar" (3D looking) avatar - very cute results.

Luke, I understand completely. The pencil drawing in the second image projects a likeness closer to the real self than the first image, but the first one is REALLY close. It just doesn't reflect the aging, gray hairs, and the additional plumpness of my true self. I also don't have that hint of a double chin shown in the first image. I have been trying to keep any actual photos of myself off the internet, which is why I toyed with the cartoonifier!

That first image seems to project more of a "Wax Museum" likeness than my real self. Close ... but not exact!

Absolutely agree with that statement. One reason I have no social media.

According to the FAQs on that page:

Is it safe to cartoonize photos online?
Absolutely. Our cartoon maker runs fully on the client side using secure browser-based technology. Your images are never uploaded to any server, ensuring your privacy and data security while using the tool.

I'm not sure whether to believe that. I always thought that AI used (needed) a programmable GPU with generous memory. I'm dubious that the AI is actually being performed in one's browser.

On the other hand, the FAQs also state that the service works on pet images, so I may try it with a photo of our dear, departed Angel, a Russian blue who was the most affectionate cat I've ever known.

I too had a Russian blue (Grisou) about 20 years ago.

In 2011, we got a rescue cat (Vixxen) which, after much research, we suspect was a Siberian. The "tell" was the relative length of hair and her beautiful "ruff":

For our other, slightly older cat (Count Blackula), we think it was a Himalayan/Burmese/Bombay, but were never quite sure:

Sadly, both have since crossed the "rainbow bridge", we are catless, and don't want to inflict the anguish of our own passing on any new pets, so we have made the hard decision not to adopt any more pets.

Thank you! We had a lot of fun with it!

I gave it a try and got this. I don’t get this from any of my other AI sites so am heeding the warning and staying away till the site gets it fixed. Just passing on Friends, not stating it is or isn’t safe.

I got a similar warning.

there are two websites, imagecartoon.com and imageTOcartoon.com

The first uses a Let's encrypt cert and will not show the webpage.

The second works for me, verified by Google Trust Services.

@Norm24, you have gone to the wrong URL, likely a mistype, instead of following the URL provided.

The URL in my original post is different from what you visited.

@qassis, I don't have any 3rd-party security software; only distro-related/endorsed tools.

Firefox is my browser and it does not flag anything.

Don't know what to say beyond that.

So it would appear to be.
