Is Ubuntu MATE going to drop X11 in favour of Wayland for 25.10?
Might be better to post this in the Thoughts and Feedback category?
MATE doesn't have a fully native Wayland experience yet [as of 1.28]
Heck, Debian/Ubuntu doesn't even have MATE 1.28 yet! (More on that here)
I'm pretty certain nothing changes when 25.10 is released later this year. X11 will still be a package in the Ubuntu repositories, and Ubuntu MATE's seed will continue to depend on it.
I'd predict that Wayland could become the default for Ubuntu MATE once it has had time to mature, but that could be years away. Wayland support is one of the project's goals.
The recent news is pretty much specific to GNOME dropping X11 support, which Ubuntu (desktop) naturally has to follow.
Hi, @lah7

Good spot, thanks! Corrected.
I must've been thinking: Heck, we're stuck on MATE 1.26!
