10 Year Anniversary of the Ubuntu MATE Community

On 3rd January 2025, the community officially turned 10 years old.

:calendar: It was this day, 11 AM, 10 years ago, that a man with a username sounding like an ice cream (or even a restaurant) created the community. That's roughly 72 days after the first remix ISO :cd: was released, an idea that started around a kitchen table.

:earth_asia: As the word spread, the earliest members started registering 8 days later.

:wine_glass: A toast!

Many thanks to everyone, past and present, for helping build this community to where it is today, a user-friendly distribution that implements the customisable and versatile MATE desktop. From the small things like providing feedback, to the members dedicating their time to make sure others' have a great computing experience.

A shout out to the veterans who stuck around since the very start! :ubuntu_mate:

:coffee: New Open Topic Category

In spirit of building a stronger bond in our small community, we're opening a new category to hang out with your fellow MATEies! (pun intended)

I learn something new almost every day. I just learned just yesterday my wife's old mac might be able to handle UM. I have a new project!

Sorry to say, but that piece on the photo looks more like a cheese wheel then a cake... but I know... it’s all in the intention
